McLaren-teamgenoot Stoffel Vandoorne bedankt Alonso voor hun tijd samen bij het Britse team. 2018 is hun tweede seizoen als teamgenoten bij McLaren.

Romain Grosjean was in 2009 een jaar lang de teamgenoot van Alonso. Het tweetal reed destijds samen voor Renault.

Ook Carlos Sainz gaat zijn landgenoot missen. De kans is groot dat Sainz in de voetsporen van Alonso treedt en volgend jaar overstapt naar McLaren. Volgens ESPN wordt hij zelfs deze week al aangekondigd.

Massa en Alonso reden van 2010 tot en met 2013 samen voor Ferrari. Massa liet zich vorige week in de Braziliaanse pers al positief uit over Alonso, en steek ook nu zijn lof niet onder stoelen of banken. De oud-coureur noemt Alonso zelfs ‘een van de beste coureurs van deze planeet’.
